The Network for Youth Actions for SRHR Advocacy (NYASA) was established in 2017 by a group of passionate youth advocates in Malawi. Recognizing the urgent need for comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) education and services in our communities, we came together with a shared vision of promoting and protecting these fundamental rights for all individuals.
The Network for Youth Actions for SRHR Advocacy (NYASA) is dedicated to championing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for all. Our network is a vibrant community of passionate advocates working together to ensure that every individual has access to comprehensive reproductive health information and services, including safe abortion.
The core mission of NYASA is to mobilize a powerful grassroots movement of youth-led groups and women's rights organizations in Malawi, advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) through peer-led education, bold community advocacy, and the removal of socio-cultural barriers to bodily autonomy.
To realize a society where all young people and women, especially those in hard-to-reach and marginalized communities, possess the knowledge, agency, and structural support to make informed choices about their sexual and reproductive health, free from stigma, discrimination, and violence.
Five bold priorities guide our grassroots movement toward meaningful, lasting change.
Monitor the local implementation of Malawi's National Youth Policy and SRHR Strategies at the district level, holding local councils accountable for youth-friendly budget allocations.
Partner with traditional leaders and district commissioners to amend or ban customary laws that restrict adolescent access to contraceptives or tolerate early marriage.
Eradicate period poverty by setting up local production hubs for reusable sanitary pads, preventing school absenteeism among rural adolescent girls.
Launch community-led mobile health vans providing confidential Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), emergency contraception, STI screening, and comprehensive SRHR services.
Train local women leaders as peer counselors to deliver accessible, trauma-informed mental health support and counseling to survivors of sexual violence.

Since our inception, NYASA has grown into a robust network comprising 15 local organizations, each dedicated to addressing various aspects of SRHR. Our journey began with grassroots efforts to raise awareness about reproductive health rights and quickly expanded to include advocacy for policy changes and legal reforms. Over the years, we have become a leading voice in the fight for safe abortion access and reproductive justice in Malawi.
